Nautical White, Gold, and Royal Blue

Sharing more scenes from my last visit to the beautiful city of Chicago!

Whenever I make my semi-annual trip home to Central California each year, I inevitably “steal” a wardrobe item from my mom’s collection—my mother (like all mothers, being the generous souls they are) will often say “here, take it!” in response to anything I mention is “cute” or that I like.  I obliged with the nautical-esque scarf featuring vibrant prints of gold tassels and anchors against a navy and cream-colored backdrop; and from that, this look was inspired!

Crop tops and high-waisted anything (shorts, skirts, pants) make for a wonderful summery-spring combination.  I’m partial to skirts (opting for the low-rise shorts and pants) but couldn’t resist this pair of textured royal blue shorts; attention grabbers, but works so well with the scarf’s blue hues.  In true high-waisted combo fashion, I wore a lace overlay crop top, also seen here.  I left the sheer panel untucked to maintain that layered element, but also to break up the textural pattern between the top and bottom—this way, the white vs royal blue patterns work to compliment instead of clash.

To finish it off, I brought back my favorite white pumps, also seen in the recent Chicago post, and a few go-to gold jewelry pieces that worked to perfectly compliment the nautical color palate and scarf.  Together, I felt that this look really “popped” in the best way possible!  As can be seen here, I also toted along a utility jacket for protection against the spring elements—while warm, it was still rather windy that day in Chicago, especially by Navy Pier!  The camel colored jacket worked well against the gold undertones of the outfit.
