Spring can be such an invigorating time of year. New colors, new styles, new energy which easily translates to love it, love it, love it! Change is good, and fun. But can also be overwhelming. That’s when having a solid set of “basics” is helpful. We’ve all heard the phrase simplicity is key. For me, this not only applies to our everyday lives but also has merit in our wardrobe choices. So here I’m sharing one of my favorite simple spring pieces that can be easily and subtly accessorizes with just a few additions, a pink drawstring dress!
In my last post, I mentioned that the changing weather and longer days help me feel invigorated! For me, I generally feel more awake each day, am more energized at work, and have put extra effort into personal projects. But in some ways, I also feel more tired and stretched-thin because of the additional output that comes with this new-found energy. Ironic, no? Sometimes, we all need to take a second and step back to appreciate the simpler things and go back to the basics.
Let me share two of my takeaways in finding and appreciating simplicity in both our wardrobe choices as well as in life:
- Identify a solid foundation.
In the world of wardrobe, we all need a solid foundation to build off of. This foundation is the centerpiece of your outfit. This can be a statement necklace, a cocktail dress, or distressed jeans–whatever it is, it is your outfit’s focal point! The rest of your outfit will be based around your foundational piece. Here, my foundation is the the simple pink drawstring dress; it’s the star and main component of my outfit, and all the other pieces I choose to wear are intended to compliment the dress.
.
In our lives, it’s easy to get carried away with the to-do list and tasks that make us lose sight of why we are doing something in the first place. It’s important to identify and then constantly remind ourselves of what that reason is. That reason is our solid foundation, the underlying driver in our actions. When things feel overwhelming, we can take a step back to re-evaluate, re-assess, and remind ourselves of that foundation.
. - Incorporate some fun.
Our outfit choices are a mode of our self-expression. We can personalize our outfits by including something that shows off a bit of what makes you you, and make it fun! Wear a pair of sneakers with a dress to add an edgy look, drape a colorful scarf over a plain-colored top, or arrange your hair in unexpected styles! Here, I’ve opted to mix a casual moto-style jacket with chandelier crystal earrings for a mix of polished and casual fun.
.
And in life, I believe it important to look out for one’s own wellbeing. Take care of yourself, including mental health! There are already enough stresses involved in the day-to-day that it’s crucial to make sure that the things you do add happiness and fun. This is doubly true for things you choose to do in your personal time. Do you smile, laugh (in a genuine manner), or feel joy when you think about working on your personal ventures? Is the goal that you’re working toward/your foundation something that will give you that “feel good” feeling? Now I know that it can’t all be fun and games, effort takes hard work that can sometimes be stressful. But I make sure that I can also have fun in the process!
So with spring in full swing, here’s to wishing that we all find that solid foundation and fun. Whether it be through a pink drawstring dress or a new volunteer opportunity, let yourself appreciate the simple things!

[…] Summer in the northeast can get hot. Unbearably hot when the proverbial stars (mis)align and send us sweltering heat with an extra dose of humidity. On days like these, the last thing I want to worry about is what to wear. Enter rompers; they’re my answer to a super simple yet perfectly polished look! This is far from the first time I’ve discussed my love of rompers, but today I’m featuring my newest acquisition, a floral pattern romper from Tobi! […]
