It’s both simultaneously startling and awe-inspiring to realize that I’m now at that age when friends from high school and college are turning in their days of rebellious youth and trading them in for mortgages, wedding bands, and children! (Meanwhile, I’m still intimidated by filing my own annual taxes!) Such was a revelation last night when one of my good friends had her engagement party in celebration of her next step in adult-ing! It’s not everyday that something like an engagement party happens—and speaking of not everyday, Happy Leap Day 2016!—so I of course hopped on the chance to dress for the celebratory occasion.
A classy event calls for classy attire. And when in doubt, you can never go wrong with a tailored navy blue dress and cultured pearl accents. The flowy flutter sleeves also add an extra element of sophistication, and the white I-strapped shoes (one of favorites as evidenced here, here, and here) really make the pearl strand necklace and pearl Alhambra earrings pop!
What I like most about this outfit is it’s versatility—it’s not overly formal and can be worn as an all day look from office to evening dinner date, but also embodies that First Lady elegance. And best of all, there’s a bit of give; not too tight but still affords a beautifully feminine silhouette. Comfort is definitely a plus on my list.
