New York has been struggling through a heat wave and it is hot hot hot! Granted, this is far better than the Central California heat that I grew up in, but coupled with the Northeastern humidity, the weather here can feel unbearable at times! With my injured ankle and the sizzling weather, it’s been hard to not just give up on leaving the apartment and stay in my jammies all day. (And I kid you not, that has been the case for a number of days this week… oh, the shame!) But for those times when you have to leave home and you want to look effortlessly summer-ready while staying cool, a trusty little romper will do the trick in no time!
I’ve been a fan of rompers ever since I was introduced to them (by my mother, no less!) almost a decade ago. They’re loose at the top, loose at the bottom to provide plenty of breathability and are cinched at the waist for that figure-flattering hourglass shape. You’ve got a top and a bottom… an effortlessly cute outfit that’s guaranteed to match! Mindless summer dressing at it’s finest :) Plus, many rompers including this one here feature legitimately functional pockets. You can actually put a few carry-with-me essentials in there, like chapstick and bobby pins (? you never know). Winning!

I found this romper (now it’s on super sale!) at an Express store, misplaced from it’s counterparts. It caught my eye and although I didn’t have time to try it on as I was on my way to checkout, I thought the floral pattern* was enticing enough for me to take a little risk. I’m so happy I did as this has now become one of my summer staples! The fabric is flowy and wrinkle-free, and is fully-lined so you won’t have any uh-oh experiences. I love the ruffling at the edge of the sleeves and collar that come down to meet the zipper. It’s an edgy-yet-feminine romper that I love to rock!
Equally edgy earrings, I threw on the stunningly beautiful Midsummer Ear Crawlers from Baublebar that have garnered nothing but compliments (unfortunately, I didn’t get any good close up shots). And to finish it off, I matched a skinny belt, to really highlight the cinched waist, with and a strappy heeled T-bar sandal from Mango. I found these sandals to be super cute and comfortable to walk—and even crutch—around in even upon first wear! The leather is soft and malleable, no rough edges or hard plastic to break in and blister which is always a plus for me!
In case you were curious about the splint I’m wearing on my right ankle, I ended up tearing the medial ankle ligaments after a bit of a cycling accident. Ahem, sigh… what an embarassment on my part. I did my best to pseudo hide the cruches here; the good news is that it’s getting better by the day, so I’m hopeful for a super speedy recovery and that I’ll not have to just balance on one leg anymore :) Thanks for all the well wishes I’ve received so far, I really appreciate them!

* I’ve also spotted new Express utility blouses in what I believe to be their Fall-line featuring the same black and floral pattern. Love!
This romper is just beautiful! I love that dark floral pattern. The t-strap sandals are such a great touch. You’re rocking them, even with your injured foot!
